Week 2

Students and School Life  After observing and settling down in our schools for a week, we slowly got into the routine of things and gained quite a few insights regarding the Swedish education system, the students, teachers and the school. The students, for the most part, behave quite similarly to Singaporean students in the classroom. However, they are also quite outgoing which can be a culture shock as they are often questioning and rationalising the teachers' decisions. The students here are also more carefree and friendly with great social skills. It is great to always find a little bit of time to talk to them about life in Sweden and their experience especially over lunch (which is free and really delicious!!). Also, be prepared to answer interesting questions by the teachers and the students as Singapore is not a place they are familiar with. Touching Down We have arrived in Stockholm in two batches! Emma Jane and Brenda on one flight and Sandy and Nicholas on the other. It was a long aeroplane ride of 14 hours with a 3hour layover in Dohar airport but we managed to get through the journey safe and sound. Getting around was fairly straight forward except for the commuter rail at Stockholm city - be sure to note that different trains pass through the same platform and it is a different kind of travel system from Singapore where the trains are the same for each platform. We had to take multiple trains, the commuter train and then some buses before we finally reached our Airbnb which was located in Flysta which was hosted by a very nice man Daniel and his family. Exploring our suburban neighbourhood, we found a Thai store, some pizzerias and   a neighbourhood supermarket. Sweden really loves their Thai food and sushi! There are numerous of these food outlets within Sweden throughout our entire stay here...
